What is the purpose of the study?
To study how teen smokers respond to things that might remind
them of smoking.
Who can participate in the study?
This study is accepting boys and girls who:
- Are 13 to 17 years of age
- Are in generally good health
- Smoke cigarettes daily
- Are not reducing or trying to quit smoking cigarettes
- Can bring a parent/guardian with them to the first study visit
What will participants be asked to do?
The study consists of 3 study visits within 1-2 weeks.
Participants will:
- Provide urine samples and breath samples
- Have checks of blood pressure, heart rate, and
skin temperature
- Hold and view items that may or may not remind them
of smoking
- Work on a task to get puffs from cigarettes
- Complete questionnaires about smoking and mood
Where is the study taking place?
The NIDA Intramural Research Program is located on the
Johns Hopkins Bayview campus in East Baltimore.
Will there be any cost?
There is no cost for participation.
Will I receive payment of some kind?
All study participants will be compensated for their time and travel.
