Assessing Theta Burst Stimulation as an
Effective Treatment to Reduce Cocaine Use

Study # 002

What is the purpose of the study?
To assess how iTBS (a type of non-invasive brain stimulation) affects brain function, thinking, decision-making and cocaine use.

Who can participate in the study?
This study is accepting men and women who:

  • Are 18 to 55 years of age
  • Have cocaine use disorder
  • Are in generally good health

What will participants be asked to do?
Participation may include up to 15 study visits and possible overnight sessions (two 5-day inpatient stays).

For research purposes, participants will:

  • Complete questionnaires about mood, substance use, general health
  • Receive a physical exam
  • Participate in 10 iTBS sessions
  • Provide blood, urine samples

Where is the study taking place?
The NIDA Intramural Research Program is located on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus in East Baltimore.

Will there be any cost to participate?
There is no cost for participation.

Will I receive payment of some kind?
Participants are paid for their time and travel.
